A Kids’ Book About Where Babies Come From (Sometimes)

Where do babies come from? The answer is a little different for families with two moms. This book is a loving narrative written by a mother to her child, who was conceived from the hearts and minds of her moms – with a little help from their friends.

Instead of speaking about diverse families generally, this book is a personal account of where one family got its start. It shares a love story and conception tale in a child-friendly package that is sure to capture kids’ hearts and imaginations – and expand their minds.

If you’re looking for an “own voices” story that diversifies your kid's, friend’s kid’s, nephew’s/niece’s/nibling’s or grandkid’s bookshelves, look no further.

About the Author

Brenlee Coates

Brenlee Coates is a mom and writer looking to deepen representation for diverse families on children’s bookshelves.

She first wrote You Came From My Heart for an audience of one: her daughter, Lark, then realized the power of sharing her family’s story to help normalize the different ways families are formed.

You Came From My Heart is her first book, told from her own perspective, but she hopes to tell more stories about where families really come from – the heart.
